Your PDP Subtitle Might Be Costing You Conversions

Most product pages repeat themselves without realizing it. The title names the product. The subtitle repeats the variant name or the brand tagline. The first image shows... the product, again.

You have three chances to say something different, use specific trigger words, etc., and most of the time they all say the same thing or something very similar.

Performance Copywriting & CRO Specialist, Nate Lagos ran into this exact pattern on a client's product pages: subtitles that restated the variant name or reused brand language already visible elsewhere on the page. He tested replacing them, starting with an obvious move: generic, feature-focused copy. It performed worse.

What actually won was different: copy that positioned the product as an upgrade from the weaker version the shopper probably already owned. Not "here's what this product does," but "here's why what you're currently using isn't good enough anymore."

Lagos reports the winning version lifted conversion by 49.27% on that client's test.

The lesson isn't "use this exact framing." It's that your subtitle is real estate, and most brands are wasting it by having the title, subtitle, and first image all make the same point instead of building a case.

Try this on your own site: Pull up one of your product pages on mobile. Read only the title, subtitle, and first image — nothing else. If all three are saying roughly the same thing, that's your test.
